August 30, 2009 All Rights Reserved - Link Only The 36th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards ... Darin Brooks Shocks and More! Under the watchful eye of the Hollywood sign, it was hot outside the Orpheum Theatre, where the 36th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards were held on Sunday, August 30, 2009. When the red carpet arrivals got underway, there were already a few boring critics waiting at the theatre blah blah blah. Next! Okay, now to the fun stuff! Tamara Braun, clad in a foxy, backless gown, gushed about being nominated and working with the Days cast. "Amazing! I love them!" And the lovefest continued after she won outstanding supporting actress for her portrayal of tormented mafia princess Ava Vitali. Elegant in black, Peter Reckell (Bo) escorted wifey Kelly, also elegant in black, and boy was he pumped. "It's a party night for us!" he declared, all smiles. He did not win an award, but he was in the outstanding lead actor category with Christian Leblanc of Y&R (the winner) and hey a nomination is still a nomination. We love ya, Bo! Kristian Alfonso (Hope) was ethereal in blue, her hair swept back, and admitted she was sweating just a teenie weenie bit, given that Days was nominated in the best drama category. Meanwhile, Shelley Hennig (Steph) and Jay Kenneth Johnson (Phil) struck a pose for the hungry photogs, as did Rachel Melvin (ex-Chelsea). Darin Brooks (ex-Max) muttered modestly about being nominated for the second time and hoped that if he did not win, Blake Berris (ex-Nick) would take it home. As it turned out, Darin Brooks did win in the outstanding younger actor category, but the dude had his speech partly muted and then cut short when he CUSSED LIVE! "Oh, did I swear? I knew that would happen!" exclaimed the now red-faced Maxman as he walked away, holding his Emmy, the world watching. Even hostess Vanessa Williams looked shocked! Other memorable moments were the slight grin James Scott (EJ) wore when co-presenter Jay Kenneth Johnson (Phil) mentioned Days of Our Lives as a nominee in the outstanding directing team category (alas OLTL won), the way Eric Martsolf (Brady) sizzled in the fashion show, not to mention the fact that famed astronaut Buzz Aldrin was in the heavenly audience ... All in all, while it was a fun time, Days did not take home outstanding lead actor or directing team or daytime drama. No surprise there. Just last week, we presented on the Daysafe.com logic bloopers page the Top 10 Reasons Days Gets Shafted at the Emmy Awards! |
