SHOOTING!

Previously on SOAP SINS
- All of a sudden, the comatose executive producer's gray eyes flew
open.
- Dakota placed her hand on her heart. "It's a miracle! You woke up!"
- "Shhh, don't tell anyone."
- "Why not?"
- Chip propped himself up on his elbows, his eyes darting to the closed door and back.  "I've been awake for the last two weeks. Don't look so stunned. Just give me the name of our implicated people and I'll tell you what to do. Then we have to discuss the person who shot me and how we're going to get revenge ...!"

The story now continues ...

- Dakota was following her instructions to the letter. Chip the producer, who was presently faking a coma, had written them all down. She had already given a press conference about how the show was committed to doing an anti-drug storyline to enhance awareness, now she just needed to carry out the remaining instructions. Chip had agreed that the best way to expose his shooter was at the Daytime Awards, which happened to be tonight. Dakota was ready. She had gotten her nails done, her makeup done. Now all that remained was to slip into her slinky French designer dress.
- She walked across Rodeo Drive and the wind blew her chestnut hair extensions in front of her face as she toyed with her car keys. It was still afternoon and she had plenty of time, so she decided to walk down Wilshire and ended up at her favorite pastry place. It wasn’t really a pastry place, but rather a restaurant run by L.A.'s latest celebrity
Euro-chef. Dakota loved his pastries. And he loved her, having been a fan of the show since the early years, when he was an immigrant
busboy clearing dishes at a greasy spoon in Brooklyn.
- The girl at the front desk showed her to her usual booth in the corner with a smile.  The Euro-chef appeared with her favorite  fruit sorbet in less than a minute. "Darling, we need to talk." He placed the glass bowl on the table and slid in across from her, motioning for the maitre d' to
pick up the pace.  "I simply must be your date for the Daytime Awards tonight." And so a few hours later, Dakota Diamonelle, soap star, arrived on the glitzy red carpet with the celebrity Euro-chef on her arm. It gave her a certain comfort having a friend with her, given what she was about to do.
- A tall plastic entertainment reporter with stiff platinum hair shoved a microphone in front of her glamorous face on the red carpet. "Love the coral creation you're wearing. What are your thoughts about tonight?"
- Dakota remembered the lines Chip had written for her and looked straight into the camera. "Ladies and gentlemen, tonight I am going to make a shocking revelation. It is happening right here right now on the red carpet. Chip the producer is no longer in a coma and has identified who shot him in his Bel Air mansion. The shooter was my current
leading man, Donny Donald, and I assure you that I was as shocked as you must be. The police are arresting him as we speak."
- The plastic entertainment reporter could hardly contain herself, so gleeful was she at having the scoop. "Attempted murder of his own producer? What was his motivation?"
- "Airtime. He wanted more and he wasn't getting it."  Dakota blew a
kiss into the camera for her fans and proceeded into the amphitheater. The Euro-chef handed the reporter a ticket to the opening of his new restaurant in Malibu and followed the soap star. But another person followed her too and he was not who he seemed. Dakota, however,
had been expecting the murderous co-star to show up in a disguise, and glared at the entertainment reporter's cameraman, whose mustache was too wide and curly to have been real.
- "Stop right there! I have a gun and it's loaded!"
- The Euro-chef fainted.
- The entertainment reporter screamed.
- The imposter cameraman reached for something in his pocket but Dakota was faster. She pulled the trigger and he fell to the floor, stone cold dead. She dropped her pink revolver on the red carpet as the cameras flashed all around her, still broadcasting live. Within seconds
the police were on the scene. Dakota was confident the footage would show she had acted in self-defense. So she thought ...
