- The color drained from Dakota's face. In a bed, hooked up to the machine, was a woman who looked exactly like her, though she was thinner and was not wearing Dior lipstick.
- "Who is this?"
- Dragos was suddenly behind her and placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "It is you, my sister. You are in a coma. You have been since the studio was blown up a long time ago."
- She shook her head. "That's not possible! I'm here."
- "But what is here? Since falling into a coma from the explosion, you have been living your life that could have been. Nothing has been real,
it is what could be. If you want it to be your truth, you must go back to the chapter before the explosion and change history. Then and only then will your reality be real."
- "And if I fail?"
- "Then you must stay here and sleep the endless sleep."
- Dakota shook her head. "No way. I'm a soap star. I don't do comas unless they're in the script. Send me back and I'll change the outcome
so there will be no explosion."
- Dragos nodded. "There could be risks."
- "I happen to be the queen of risks."
- "As you wish, but don't say I didn't warn you ..."

The story now continues ...

- When Dakota awoke the next morning, her phone was ringing a different kind of ring, like Christmas bells. She answered too late and then checked the date. Not Christmas. It was October 15. That was the day that ...
- Nick the prime time husband now appeared with a tray of fruit for breakfast. "To fortify you for the big meeting at the studio."
- She sighed and then remembered the meeting that was to come at the studio, where Chip the executive producer and the network president
of daytime programming would announce that the soap opera would be migrating online. Then she would go home and the studio would blow
up. How to stop it? She got an idea and sent her prime time husband out to get his daily copy of Variety, which would be in the mailbox. He went and she picked up her phone, blocking her number. Then she called the L.A.P.D. to warn them that someone had planted a bomb at the studio. Click! Dakota smiled and got out of bed, wrapping herself in a luxurious Natori robe. It was red to match her vibrant mood. Now for coffee ...
Downstairs in the kitchen, she smugly waited for the coffee to brew
and turned on the television. Within a half hour, the entire studio was evacuated, the explosive device was discovered, and Chip had called her to reschedule the meeting for the next day. She sipped her coffee and wondered how long it would be before she got sent back to the future, which was her present. She walked into the living room and spied Nick seated on the leather couch, reading Variety like he did every morning. Then she glanced at her reflection in the mirror, only to discover that her hair was blonde. It made her gasp.
- "Not now, darling," drawled the prime time husband. "I'm busy reading the obituaries."
- "When did I go blonde??? I’m not supposed to be a blonde. In this chapter, I am supposed to be a brunette, like always. What happened?"  When she turned back to the black leather couch, no one was there. Dragos was waiting in the kitchen. He looked more intense than usual.
"I'm back," she gushed. "But my hair ..."
- Dragos slowly shook his Euro head. "You weren't supposed to change anything besides the explosion but you did when you told him to go get his copy of Variety. That somehow changed a few things."
- She peered at her half vampire brother suspiciously. "What things?"
- He shrugged his shoulders. "Time will tell. But you can always color you hair back to brown."
- That was precisely what Dakota did that afternoon. After the hair salon appointment, convinced she could regain control of her fate in every
way, she decided to go for a jog along the beach in nearby Santa Monica. It was late afternoon when she returned and she was unable to find her house in the Hollywood Hills. What was going on? As though on cue, Dragos, who was dressed in black from head to toe, appeared in the passenger's seat.
- "You don't live here anymore."
- "That's not possible! I was only gone half a day!"
- “The days are passing fast to get you back to your future. Like I had said, you changed things by reminding Nick to get his copy of Variety. Originally he ended up missing that issue, which was stolen by your neighbor's kid. In that issue was the obituary of an Australian producer. Your prime time husband then flew to Tasmania for his funeral and joined a commune. You divorced him. Since you left the house this morning, time has passed fast. It's been two months."
- "This is a nightmare!" she suddenly snapped.
- Dragos said he was sorry about the failed marriage.
- "I am referring to the fact that I am still a blonde." She put the mirror back up and pulled over to the side of the road.
- Dragos now gave her her current address in Bel Air.
- She shook her head. "That’s the address of Chip, the executive producer of my soap opera."
- "Yes," he said quietly,"and your current husband." Then he was gone.
- Dakota reached back for her Prada bag and took out her house keys. They looked the same as usual. She drove to Chip's Bel Air mansion,  just to prove to herself that Dragos had been wrong. She pulled into the circular driveway with ease, stopped her car, and got out. Much to her dismay, one of her keys opened the front door. She told herself it must have been a skeleton key and walked in anyway. All of a sudden, a loud sports car pulled up. Chip the illustrious producer, who played the game to perfection, could shed an insincere tear, make a deal with the devil, hire and fire people with the loyalty of a snake, and oversee the craziest cliffhangers in daytime history, came in with a grin. "Honey, I'm home!"
- Dakota decided right then and there that if this was to be her existence, she would simply go from having the endless sleep to having an endless headache. But time was passing even faster than she could imagine ...
