SECRETS!

- At the pier, EJ hands Sami the ransom note. She cries with joy that their baby is alive and throws her arms around him. The note orders them to await instructions in the next 12 hours. No police or else no Sydney! She wonders how they can be certain this is true, as there was blood on the clothes. EJ knows not, the deets, though he thinks it was to throw the
feds off the scent. They want the money and this is their last chance. "No outside involvement." Rafe comes around the corner and asks about that outside involvement. "What's going on?" he drawls. Pause. EJ claims the involvement concerned Samantha wanting to cancel the memorial. Rafe asks if she is indeed canceling the gathering. She replies she needs time. Rafe explains he dropped the kids off with Caroline and came back in
case he was needed. He looks at the pair intensely. Sami pretends she is worried her kids will walk all over her grandma and asks Rafe to please
go back, keep an eye on them. He says sure and departs. Sami laments
he saw right thru her and she regrets lying. Elvis repeats it is best if they not involve Rafe. Sami, however, does not trust her own judgment and fears she already messed up before. EJ asks her to let him take control,
let him take charge. "The hell you will!" says she. She is not a child! He points out she was the one who said she did not trust her judgment. She snaps she requires time to figure out whether or not to tell Rafe about the new ransom note. Elvis exclaims she should not! Sami thinks he deserves to know. Elvis is of the opinion that would be the biggest mistake of her life. "Rafe is a liability." He already blew it. Sami believes he will not go
to the FBI if she asks. He seriously doubts it. Is she willing to make the same mistake again? Whatever she decides, many will have to live with the consequences! Sami considers. She reluctantly agrees there can be no mistakes this time. Elvis declares they will keep this between them. For Sydney. Sami agrees to put everything else aside to get their baby back. Elvis nods in approval. He warns her to be careful, what with Rafe's FBI training. They could lose Sydney. Sami knows She will therefore put her feelings aside and concludes if Rafe does not understand, then they were not meant to be! Elvis now advises her to call Rafe and inform him the gathering is off. She worries he will perceive she is not grieving anymore and he will wonder why. Elvis suggests she lie and make the call, if she wants to get her daughta back.
- Rafe heads back to the pub and gets himself a coffee, updating Ari. Ari suggests he cut EJ some slack. He is certainly no saint, but he is a loving and devoted father who has been through hell. She reminds him that his daughter died. Rafe pauses. Why is she defending him? EJ, he feels, has
a certain smugness to him at present and he is taking advantage of the situation. Ari doubts it, but Rafe insists "EJ is up to something."
-Carly is outside the pub, calling the hospital, who will not update her on Melanie, even when she says she is her mother. Along comes Maggie, who quips her playing the mother card is hollow! Carly retorts she would surely do the same if she was worried about her child. The redhead is
mad that Carly's carelessness cost Melanie. She cannot help but resent it as she is precious to her. Carly is grateful when Maggie says she loves
her. Maggie now tells her she just came from the hospital and Melanie is fine. "Thank God," says Carly. She explains she had thought Melanie was being raised by decent parents. Did she know Trent? Maggie knew of him and his terrible treatment of her. Carly laments there was one other thing she deprived her of. She alludes to her father but is too cryptic for Maggie to comprehend. The redhead starts to leave, then teeters and almost falls. Carly catches her.She takes her inside and would like to check out her hands, which are also bothering her. Maggie claims that it is just the cold making her arthritis act up. She has things to do. She wishes Carly luck. Carly states all she wants is for Melanie to be well and for someone to look after her. Maggie says that is all she wants too. Exit the redhead. Carly decides her daughter will be looked after and places a call ...
- Daniel touches Mel's face and then his own as she sleeps in her hospital bed. "My daughter," he whispers. When he touches her hand, she wakes up and wonders why he is looking at her funny. Is she gonna die?  "No," he assures her. He is delighted she has recovered. It is a miracle. Mel smiles he is forgiven for letting Dr. Carly see her. After all, he saved her life. He breathes he should have done so much more. She thinks he is the greatest. No wonder Phillip's family is crazy about him! He chuckles he has heard she is a hit with the Kiriakis clan as well. Mel giggles she pays them too and brings up how nice it is to be part of a family. She notes he is looking at her strangely again. Papa Dan solemnly says he must tell her something. What? He will tell her later, when she is stronger. Melanie is looking forward to it. She thanks him for being there for her and closes her eyes, still smiling. Dan stands up. Ring ring! Tis a text message from Carly, summoning him to the pub.
- Later on, at the pub, Dan informs Carly that Melanie is well physically but not emotionally. Carly thinks she would be proud to have Daniel as her father. Best to tell her now. Dan disagrees. She will want to know why he was not there when she needed him. And she will focus on how different her life could have been. He reminds Carly she had an awful childhood. Carly admits she made a mistake in that one, Daniel retorts
she is damn right it was a mistake "and this one was unforgivable!" Carly brings up Lawrence. Daniel insists he could have dealt with him. He adds he had his daughter's heart in his hand and did not even know! Carly is optimistic about the future. Dan cuts her off. Even he cannot wipe away the past, how some s.o.b, was pimping out his little girl to pay off seedy gambling debts. He glares at Carly. "You don't deserve her and you don't deserve forgiveness!" Exit protective papa Dan. Carly looks remorseful.
- At the hospital, Melanie has another visitor - Ari, who tells her Phillip was getting her ice cream. Mel nervously laughs about being shot on her wedding day by her mother. She is confused and assumes it is due to the medicine. She complains Carly keeps telling her how sorry she is. Mel cares not about all her excuses. "She abandoned me as a baby," not to mention she left her with  a psycho pop. Her whole childhood was ruined because of her. She can never forgive her for those years!
- At the cabin, Anna looks at Tony's photo nearby and recalls the ransom note, how EJ thinks it will be his crowning glory. He just does not know when to quit! She looks at the cuttings from which she pasted the letters of the note and recalls asking Elvis what if his plan does not work. What
if Sami brought Rafe in? Elvis had grinned that was an outcome not too horrible to contemplate ... Anna blinks back to reality. Maybe EJ will get what he wants from his plans, but nothing good will come of it. Nothing
at all!
- Maggie is in her kitchen and drops something. "Oh God, what is going on?" She clutches her arm and wonders if IT is coming back. What is she going to do!
- Rafe joins EJ and Sami at the pier again. Is everything ok? Sami admits no.Elvis interrupts and drawls that they have decided not to tell the twins. Sami pretends to agree, as she too thinks the twins might be too confused. She notices Rafe is carrying a bouquet of flowers. He says they reminded him of Sydney. Perhaps she could say a few words and throw them in the water? Tears trickle down Sami's face and she admits she is not sure she could do that. Rafe acts understanding. His eyes flicker. But he presses. Sami thanks him for the offer, yet she cannot, she is sorry. It would be too painful. Rafe now turns to EJ, who also refuses. Rafe does it himself. He tells Sydney she will never be forgotten and then tosses the flowers in the river. EJ glances at Sami. She hugs Rafe in tears. Elvis watches like a hawk ...

"When are you gonna realize that she will never be out of your life!"
Ari tells EJ.
"I would like my children to grow up as one family!" Elvis exclaims
to Anna.
Rafe stares at Sami. "So, what did he say to you!"
