John hears Marlena gasping it cannot be but the other voice is muffled on the recording ... Gabi leaves Jake a mad message outside the pub, not knowing his whereabouts ... Replay of Carmine shooting Abe at close range with Jake’s gun. Jake tried unsuccessfully to stop it. Abe falls to the ground and Jake tries to stop the bleeding. Carmine drops the gun and takes off. Jake calls 911 cos Mayor Abe got shot at the park. Meanwhile Lani gushes about Abe's excited wedding planning texts. She knows he and Paulina are in love. Paulina admits Marlena advised her on a matter than involves Lani. Lani wonders but then a baby cries so she leaves the room. Paulina sighs how to say she is her bio mom but Abe is not the daddy??? ... Mardevil stops Julie as she argues with the nurse. She pretends to be concerned for her safety. Eli assures her he will be present. Marlena suggests just seeing Julie could be troubling to Doug. She refuses to back down but Eli suggests he see Doug to ask him about a crime cos Doug accused Marlena of attempted murder ... John cannot hear anything Doug says on the recording but then he hears Marlena demanding to know why HE is doing this to Doug, wondering why has HE came back. Indignant Kayla interrupts. John suggests something is wrong with the recording so she talks hospital rules. He tells her about the strange static, the fact that it seemed someone else was with Marlena ... - Back at Bayview Marlena claims Doug was delusional. Eli probes. Marlena stands her ground but Julie wonders where her compassion went. She does not even recognize her icy eyes ... Lani thanks Paulina for settling Jules down. The same rhythmic pats even worked with baby Lani, who is surprised she held her sometimes. Paulina sighs she treasured that time together ... Rafe comes with a couple of cops, spies the gun on the grass, fallen Abe, and arrests Jake ... Gabi runs into Carmine outside the pub and gasps she knows who he is. He denies he is Carmine but she has seen his photo in Philip’s file. She warns he will not be able to blame Jake for Jetson Eddie. He leers Jake has worse problems now and runs off ... Paulina lets Lani know how much she loved her. She hopes Abe will understand what she is about to say. Lani asks if it is connected to her request she call her mama. Paulina confirms ... Marlena suggests they trust in her but Julie questions how much she cares about Doug. Rafe now calls Eli about Abe's shooting. Eli updates Julie and takes off to tell Lani. Abe is en route to hospital, having been shot in the chest. Marlena offers to remain with Julie, then offers s ride home. She hesitates when Julie asks to be driven to the hospital. - Kayla is cross with John, who insists Marlena sounded scared. Kayla now gets the call about Abe being shot. John is shocked and they head to the ER ... Rafe has Jake in an interrogation room and demands the whole story. Jake demands a lawyer. Rafe is appalled about Abe and warns he will make him pay if he did it. Then he lets him have his phone call. Alone, Jake dials Gabi’s cell. He sighs he is at the station ... Glam Julie suggests Marlena step aside. She is heading to the hospital. Mardevil suggests they go to St. Luke’s to pray for both Doug and Abe. The hospital is almost next door. Julie agrees and gets out her rosary. Mardevil tries not to look and acts positive about praying. She has deadly plans in store ... Lani will always consider Paulina her auntie and besides what is in a name? Paulina starts to say she is more than her niece and Abe’s daughter ... until Eli interrupts with the bad news about Abe ... - Gabi rushes to Jake and gasps she saw Carmine. Jake is troubled she told him who she was and admits he summoned Carmine to confront him. He tried to intimidate him with a gun but Carmine grabbed it and shot Abe, who was attempting to intervene ... In the OR Dr. Kayla sees the exit wound in the back and notes Abe needs a transfusion stat. His blood pressure suddenly drops and she urges him to stay with her ... At the nurse’s station John unhappily updates recently arrived Lani, Paulina and Eli. Paulina refuses to wait to see her fiancée and Lani follows her. Eli admits to John that he did not have the chance to get Julie in to see Doug. John hopes Julie is not alone with Marlena now. Eli updates him on the St. Luke’s prayer plan and John takes off to join them before it is too late ... Julie makes the sign of the cross with holy water. Mardevil suggests she light a candle and she does. She sits next to her as Julie silently prays. Mardevil silently taunts God about how she trashed his house before. She decides to drown devoted Julie where her great-grandbabies were baptized ... - Jake updates Gabi on what went down, how he told Rafe nothing. She blames Ava and Philip and offers to speak to Rafe. Meantime they must pray for Abe ... Upset Paulina wants Abe to know she is here and loves him. Dr. Kayla asks her to leave them to their work. Lani assures her he is fighting and escorts her out ... Julie ends her prayer and Mardevil says Amen. Julie loves being here and Mardevil brings up the baptism of her great-grandbabies. Julie remembers the wonderful day it was. She sadly states now here they are praying for Doug and Abraham. Marlena is about to shove her face in the holy water fountain when John races in and calls Julie’s name. He suspiciously learns Marlena suggested they come. He updates Julie on the gang at the hospital and suggests they need her support. She sighs Marlena insisted they come here first. John somberly suggests she cross the street to join them. Julie steps away but he stops doc and growls he does not even know if she is really his wife. She has not been the same since Doug. She humors him but he warns he listened to the recording. Marlena mentioned someone returning to Salem. He deduces she was not speaking to Doug. She was speaking to he who has possessed his wife again after all these years ... Gabi assures guilt-ridden Jake it is not his fault Abe was shot. She suggests they stall and hopes when Abe wakes up he will be able to tell them all that Carmine shot him. Jake mutters he must wake up for his family, for all those who love him ... Lani and Paulina return to Eli, who will investigate what happened to Abe. Lani sadly stares as Paulina promises they will all celebrate with their wedding soon ... Meanwhile Mayor Abe starts to flatline ...
